Data notes for Utah
Flat 4.45% for 2026 (SB 60, 2026 General Session, signed March 23, 2026, retroactive to Jan 1, 2026; was 4.5% in 2025). No standard deduction or personal exemption for a filer without dependents (Utah's personal exemption counts dependents only). Instead the nonrefundable Taxpayer Tax Credit = 6% x federal standard deduction (+6% x Utah dependent exemptions, zero here). 2026 federal standard deduction (IRS, post-OBBBA): $16,100 single / $32,200 MFJ / $24,150 HOH -> credit $966 / $1,932 / $1,449. Credit is reduced by 1.3% of Utah taxable income (= federal AGI for wage earners) above a base phase-out amount. The 2025 base amounts were $18,213 single / $36,426 MFJ / $27,320 HOH (HOH = 1.5x and MFJ = 2x single). The 2026 annual base amounts could not be found in an official annual source; Utah Pub 14 (withholding, effective June 1, 2026) raised the 'wages exempt from tax credit reduction' for married filers from $18,213 to $18,696 - the 2025 married withholding figure equalled the 2025 annual single base amount - so 2026 single = $18,696, MFJ = 2x = $37,392, HOH = 1.5x = $28,044 are DERIVED; hence values_status 'projected' (rate and credit rate are official). No mandatory employee state payroll contributions. Pre-tax 401(k)/section 125 excluded (starts from federal AGI).
