Data notes for Virginia
Four brackets (2/3/5/5.75%, top over $17,000), same for every filing status, unchanged since 1990s. Standard deduction 2026: $8,750 single and HOH (Virginia gives HOH the single amount) / $17,500 MFJ. PolicyEngine records $8,750/$17,500 from 2025 (HB 1600, 2025 Appropriation Act) continuing through 2026, then $9,200/$18,400 from 2027 and $9,300/$18,600 from 2028 under HB 30 (2026 Appropriation Act, Item 4-14 #1c), per the Virginia Tax 2026 Legislative Summary. The standard deduction file has no uprating (fixed statutory amounts). Personal exemption $930 per person (MFJ one-earner couple = 2 x $930). No phase-outs. Low-income credit and spouse tax adjustment (two-earner couples only) ignored per scope.
